Fundraisers planned for fire victims

A Weissport business will host a fundraiser for a Lehighton family who lost everything in a fire last week.

Mario’s Pizza will stage a Dine & Donate Thursday for the Ferguson family. The event is dine in or pick up.

Christine Ferguson and her three sons lost everything in the fire. Alfie’s has set up a box for collections for the Ferguson family. A GoFundMe has also been set up.

Corner Cone also donated money from sales this past weekend.

The fire began around 7 p.m. June 20 at 324 N. First St. The properties at 322-324 N. First St. were destroyed. The two houses were demolished Saturday.

Lehighton Fire Chief Patrick Mriss said the investigation is in the hands of the Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal, who was on the scene the night of the fire. State police have not released information on the investigation.

Mriss said there were no injuries, as fire crews battled the blaze in 90-plus degree temperatures.

Many businesses and organizations provided water, ice, Gatorade and snacks. St. Luke’s gave a donation to offset costs. The Lehighton Lions Lioness Club brought water.

Lehighton Ambulance Fire Rehab Unit 5699 assisted the area firefighters at the scene with shelter, water, snacks and medical attention.

The American Red Cross is helping the victims.

GoFundMe accounts are also set up for other victims, including Jessi Ferrey and her family which includes 4-year-old daughter Cora.

It was Jessi’s 30th birthday last week and Cora’s 4th birthday was earlier this week, according to the GoFundMe page.

Sapore’s is hosting a fundraiser for the family on July 10.
