Slatington remembers longtime mayor

On Monday, Slatington borough council had a slideshow running on the television monitor in the borough chambers meeting room to remember longtime mayor and councilman Walter Niedermeyer, who died on May 24.

Mayor Jeralyn Schoch presented Niedermeyer’s family with a proclamation.

The proclamation recognized his “exemplified outstanding service throughout his tenure with Slatington borough and his unwavering commitment, exceptional skills, and tireless efforts” for the success and growth and safety of the borough.

The borough recognized his leadership, vision, and dedication “inspiring others and setting a high standard for excellence.”

The borough praised “his professionalism, integrity, and kindness.”

Niedermeyer also contributed to the community with his volunteer work with Slatington Borough Lions Club, Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce, and Venture Group effort.

He served as mayor from 2001-2021 and on council in 2024.

Council President David Schnaars said, “Walter will be sorely missed.”
