The Lehigh County coroner’s office said Matthew E. Stepp, 19, died at 8:37 p.m. Friday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.

The coroner’s office said he was in a crash at the intersection of Hazelwood and Laurel Lane in Towamensing Township at 6:35 p.m. Thursday.

State police at Lehighton identified Stepp as the driver who was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest hospital after he led police on a 10-mile chase from Franklin Township to Towamensing Township.

State police said at 6:24 p.m. Thursday, state troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 on Route 248 in Franklin Township due to vehicle code violations.

After activating the emergency lights and sirens, the truck failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated. Ultimately, the fleeing vehicle lost control, left the roadway, and struck a tree.
