Lehighton Boys and Girls Band presents spring concert Sunday
The Lehighton Boys and Girls Band will present its spring concert at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Boys and Girls Band Hall, Sixth and Cypress streets in Lehighton.
The concert is free to the public and will consist mostly of songs that are equated with action, adventure, and fantasy.
The concert will open with James Swearingen’s “Excalibur” overture. This upbeat number is perfect for the start of a concert, especially one like this that features two songs about dragons.
Following the opening number, the band will perform “Beyond the Wind” by Mark Williams. A favorite of the band, this number could certainly be used as a theme song for an adventure movie.
The movie “Frozen” is one of the most popular fantasy films out there. The band will perform possibly the most famous song from the movie, “Let it Go” arranged by Johnny Vinson.
Up next is the Latin Pop Number “Havanna” arranged by Michael Story.
The band’s first of two songs featuring dragons is “The March of the Dragonmaster” by Teresa and Paul Jennings.
This will be followed by the Bruno Mars hit “Treasure,” and then “Hey Baby,” which was written in 1961 but reached fame again in the movie Dirty Dancing.
From there, “Eye of the Tiger” from Rocky III is up next and will be followed by “All That Jazz” from the Broadway sensation, Chicago. Both of these songs were arranged by Michael Story.
They will be followed by the groups second dragon number entitled “Castles and Dragons” written by Frank Erickson.
The final number of the concert is the famous “Star Wars” by John Williams. A concert with an adventure theme isn’t complete without this number.
The concert is free to the public, but donations will be accepted to defray the costs involved with maintaining the hall as well as purchasing music and other supplies.
The band has experienced quite a bit of growth over the last year, having 40 students on the rolls.
The band is under the direction of Bradly R. Cressley.
