Lansford to interview for code officer

Lansford Borough Council plans on interviewing for the code enforcement officer position, a councilman said earlier this month.

Resident Rose Mary Cannon asked about the position during a code and ordinance committee meeting earlier this month.

She wanted to know if the borough planned to re-advertise the position of code enforcement officer, as only one person applied. She said she also disagreed with the position being listed as part-time.

Councilman Jack Soberick, who chairs the committee, said that the borough wanted to hire someone part-time to see how they would work out in the position, and then possibly offer full-time status.

In the past, council hired people full-time and they didn’t work out, and then there were issues with terminating the person, Soberick said.

“Maybe we’re better off taking baby steps, instead of jumping in headfirst,” he said.

The borough does plan on interviewing the one applicant it had for the part-time code enforcement officer, which was listed as a $25 an hour position, Soberick said.

Councilman Joseph Butrie asked about the garbage at 310-12 E. Snyder Ave., and Swartz said that he documented the property and sent out a notice of violation. He was waiting for the return card on the certified mail to move forward.

Cannon also pointed out a Sharp Street property owner who has nearly two dozen cats coming and going, and the odor is unbearable. She said there are also high hedges and trees at two West Patterson Street properties.
