Get ready to have fun.
The West End Fireman’s Festival starts today at the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert.
The event benefits the Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company, Blue Ridge Hook and Ladder, Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company and West End Volunteer Fire Company, which covers Chestnuthill Township.
Polk Township Fire Chief Billy Tippett, said, “Four fire companies make up the West End, but volunteers are slowly declining. The fair is an opportunity to work more together and do it on a lighter note.
The community gets to meet and greet firefighters who may come to their emergencies. This is also an opportunity to raise funds for the fire companies.”
The festival opens at 5:30 p.m. with live music beginning at 6 p.m. Ride all night for one price.
On Friday, gates also open at 5:30 p.m., and at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Live music both days and chicken barbecue dinners. Hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, clams and more also will be available.
“Touch a Truck” will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday where people will have an opportunity to see and climb on ambulances, police vehicles, construction equipment, fire trucks, military equipment and helicopters.
Also from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, there will be a wristband ride special and fireworks at 9:30 p.m.
