Palmerton says no to logo on trash bin

Palmerton has opted not to place the logo of a company that donated trash cans to the borough on the containers.

On a 4-1 vote, with one abstention, borough council on Thursday agreed to not have the company that donated the trash cans have its logo on them.

Councilman Andrew Hollywood cast the sole vote against. Councilman Richard Nothstein abstained. Councilman Kris Hoffner was absent.

Before the vote, Councilman Randy Gursky said the company that donated the trash containers wants to have their logo on them.

Gursky then suggested that council accept the trash containers without the corporate sponsored name on it.

Councilwoman Holly Hausman-Sell noted that the borough hasn’t done that for the Concourse Club.

However, Hollywood said he believes that the company deserves to be recognized.

But, Gursky countered there have been other organizations that have made donations and don’t have their names on them.

Councilman Bill Gallagher said he believes this is a unique situation.

Hausman-Sell said her opinion is that once you start putting stickers on things, it doesn’t look as nice.

Last month, council tabled discussion on Palmerton Chamber of Commerce trash containers.

In August, Joe Federanich, co-chair of the Palmerton Chamber of Commerce, said the chamber had received a $1,000 grant from the Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Federanich said the Palmerton Chamber matched the $1,000, and Spillane’s Fit matched what both of the chambers donated.

He said that gives the chamber $4,000, which it may buy new blue and white trash cans to line Delaware Avenue.

Federanich said they would start at the upper end of Delaware Avenue, and buy as many trash cans as they can, put them out and continue again this year.
