Lewistown Garden Club

The Lewistown Valley Garden Club held its meeting on April 30.

The members’ arrangements were judged with first place going to Evelyn Adams, second place to Noreen Rosso, and third place to Barb Malewski.

Specimens were judged with Pat Wishousky, first place for a periwinkle; Sharon Herring, second place for a tulip, and Noreen Rosso, third place for a crabapple.

Flowering branches were judged with Noreen Rosso, first place for crabapple; Ann Fedor, second place for cherry, and Cindy Sabol, third place for ornamental cherry.

The May meeting will be the annual Member Tea on at noon on May 28 at the Zion Church hall in Lewistown Valley. Members are also reminded to bring their favorite teacup. Refreshments were assigned according to last name of members.

Calvary Lewistown

Pastor Kim will conduct the combined Memorial Day Service of recognition and memory of heroes at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Calvary Evangelical UMC in Lewistown Valley. A combined choir of Zion and Calvary churches will provide a song of healing of our nation. The Rev. Jim Williams of Zion Church will bring the morning message of “Challenge.”

The first part of service will be held indoors at Calvary and the second part will be held at the Calvary Evangelical cemetery with the participation of the American Legion.

Following the service, there will be a gathering at Zion social hall for all who care to participate. Attendees should bring a dish of food to share.

Sunday school is at 9:15 a.m. Sunday. There will be no Sunday evening service.

A prayer meeting will be held at 7 p.m. May 29. For location, call 570-225-6007.

The cleanup at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle will be held Tuesdays beginning at 5 p.m. or whenever volunteers can get there.

Tamaqua Seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met on May 16 with 28 members in attendance.

The president opened the meeting with the invocation, “No Greater Blessing.”

Bingo and cards were played. The group meets every Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Coaldale Complex. Anyone 55 and older is invited.

A Memorial Day buffet will be held May 30. The annual summer picnic will be held Aug. 8.

Zion - Lewistown

The Zion Men will meet at 8 a.m. on Saturday in Memorial Hall.

Sunday school for children and adults is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.

Zion Church will participate in a combined Memorial Day service at Calvary Evangelical church at 10:25 a.m. The service will end with a ceremony in the cemetery.

A covered dish meal will be held following the service at Zion Social Hall.
