Polka Joe marking 50 years on Sunday

Memorial Day weekend will mark the 50th anniversary of “Polka Joe” Manjack and his polka show on Magic 105.5 WMGH.

To celebrate, “Polka Joe’s 50th Anniversary” will be held Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. from the Lakeside Ballroom in Barnesville.

The event will feature Manjack’s live broadcast from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a performance of The Pennsylvania Villagers from 1 to 3 p.m.; a presentation of awards to Manjack from 3 to 4 p.m., and a performance of Jimmy Sturr and His Orchestra from 4 to 7 p.m. Tickets are available at a number of local businesses, and online at www.wmgh.com.

There have been five owners, several format and call letter changes and two separate studio locations over the past 50 years, and through all those changes, Polka Joe and “The Magic Polka Machine” have been on the air entertaining thousands of listeners in the anthracite Coal Region and beyond every single Sunday morning since 1974.

As a regional air personality, Polka Joe does over a dozen remotes a year for various nonprofit organizations and charities in a two county area and has been featured in many newspaper articles and local television interviews.

In addition to hosting his show every Sunday, Joe is also the studio engineer for WMGH-FM (Tamaqua, PA) and WLSH (Lansford, PA). Joe is also a host of Pennsylvania Polka on WWIA.
