Lansford Borough Council continued to review investment strategies with financial institutions.
On Monday, council heard from the Pennsylvania Local Government Investment Trust during a special meeting.
Earlier this month, council met with several local banks regarding options to invest funds into accounts yielding higher interest to generate more money. A representative from PLGIT intended to present then, but had to reschedule to this week.
Council President Bruce Markovich said that they made some good suggestions for the borough to consider, but he didn’t expect council to make a decision until June or July.
Resident Bob Silver raised the issue of the borough not earning enough interest on some of its funds, such as those held in the railroad account.
Street sweeper
Also, on Monday, council purchased a 2016 Freightliner street sweeper from the Commercial Vehicle Center in Langhorne, Bucks County, for $95,000. Councilwoman Jennifer Staines voted against the purchase, Markovich said.
The borough looked for a new, used street sweeper last year after its 32-year-old machine broke down. Neighboring Summit Hill Borough helped Lansford with street sweeping both last year and this year.
Other business
In other business, council:
• Authorized Portnoff Law Associates to proceed with writs of execution for sheriff’s sale on 10 properties for unpaid borough bills totaling $36,000. The property owners have refused to pay any portion of the bills owed, some dating back to 2018, Markovich said.
• Planned to meet in executive session to discuss its solicitor’s written report regarding the removal of borough-owned computer hard drives more than three years ago due to an apparent hacking attempt. Markovich said no report would be issued pending further investigation.
