Lansford looks at Silberline appraisal

Lansford Borough Council wants to know how much the former Silberline properties are worth.

The borough owns the multiple building complex along Dock Street, where it currently has its borough garage.

Council was considering using one of the buildings, the former Silberline office/headquarters building, for use as a police station.

Council President Bruce Markovich asked which buildings council members wanted to appraise and consider for sale.

Councilwoman Michele Bartek said she was looking at selling all the buildings on one side of the complex, and keep the others.

Markovich pointed out that the borough has a 10-year lease with Construction Clearance for one of the buildings.

Bartek said they would keep that building, along with the borough garage and the office building.

“So, we’re going to sell the old manufacturing part of it?” Markovich asked. “That’s what we want to get appraised?”

Bartek said yes.

Councilmen Jay Doyle and Jack Soberick asked about the plans to move the police department to the office building. Council voted in January to get estimates on the work needed, Soberick said.

The borough still hasn’t received all the estimates, Markovich said. The only outstanding estimate is for the air conditioning unit, he said.

Soberick said they have been waiting for four months and still don’t know costs.

Doyle asked if they were still moving the offices there, and Markovich replied, “No. We didn’t make that decision yet. We’re still waiting on the cost to rehab that building.”

Markovich asked if they want to get the old manufacturing part of the building appraised, and Bartek said she’d like to get the whole complex appraised.

“That way we have it,” she said, “If we put it up for sale.”

Instead of moving forward with an appraisal, council approved getting an estimate on the cost to appraise all of the buildings in the complex.
