Lehighton man charged in drug task force detail

A Lehighton man faces drug charges after Carbon County Drug Task Force members detained him outside his home Friday morning.

Edward C. Kleintop, 52, of Lower Nis Hollow Drive, was arraigned on charges of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was released on $75,000 unsecured bail following his arraignment.

According to court papers, the drug task force set up surveillance of Kleintop’s home Friday at 5:30 a.m., and observed him leaving the home and get into his vehicle at 6:15 a.m.

Kleintop was detained and found with an eyeglass case containing $800, some of which was state Office of Attorney General prerecorded buy money, court papers said.

He also had $12 and a metal cylinder with about 0.94 grams of methamphetamine court papers said.

Kleintop admitted to selling methamphetamine and led agents to a container and cabinet on the porch containing about 21.26 grams of methamphetamine and 9.13 grams of marijuana, court papers said.

Agents also seized a digital scale and packaging materials, common among drug traffickers, inside the residence.

Kleintop was taken to the Nesquehoning Police headquarters, where he told agents that he had been selling methamphetamine for several months. He also said he would obtain the drug, use half and sell half, court papers said.
