Man jailed after threatening to blow up parents

Matthew Zelinsky, 37, of Pine Grove, was committed to the Schuylkill County Prison, Pottsville, following his arraignment on charges relating to him threatening to blow up his parents in their home on Terrace Hill Road, Pine Grove Township.

State police sat the Schuylkill Haven barracks said it happened at 1:31 p.m. April 30, after which time Zelinsky was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Anthony J. Kilker and jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail.

His parents are a 71-year-old man and a 67-year-old woman, with whom Zelinsky was involved in an argument. Police said at one point in the tirade he placed a quarter stick explosive on a table where his parents were sitting and threatened to light it if they did not answer his questions. Police said he held a butane torch lighter in his hand at the time.

Police said a call was made to 911 after which time Zelinsky fled the scene. They said a few hours later, he returned to the residence and refused to exit upon being confronted by police.

Police said they obtained a warrant after several hours and took Zelinsky into custody without further incident.
