Lehighton to spend nearly $92K for cameras for parks

Lehighton hopes the installation of a surveillance system will help thwart mischief in its upper and lower parks.

Borough council Monday awarded a proposal from Keystone Technologies in the amount of $91,500 for 32 cameras.

Borough Manager Dane DeWire said the borough has a $93,000 grant to use for the protection of its parks.

DeWire said the grant will be released once the borough incurs the costs.

In September 2022, council signed documents between the borough and the Commonwealth Financing Authority for the grant to be used for a surveillance system in the parks.

Recreation director Tom Evans previously said they’ve received complaints about the Grove because equipment had been destroyed.

In July 2021, vandals struck at the fountain in the borough’s Lower Park when they filled it with soap and bubbles.

Foam oozed from the fountain for the second time in a month, borough officials said.
