Lehigh Twp. police respond to mental health incident

A Lehigh Township man has been treated following an incident Tuesday afternoon.

Lehigh Township Police Department was called at around 12:45 p.m. to a call for a man covered in blood, in the backyard of a house in the 1100 block of Municipal Road near the intersection of Wood Drive.

Upon arrival, officer responded and found the man, 37, having a mental health crisis, standing in a driveway, shirtless, with blood covering his face, neck, torso, and wearing blood-soaked pants.

The man was observed holding a knife, and began yelling at police to shoot and kill him. After about 15 minutes, officers were able to subdue the man.

The man was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital for several serious stab wounds to the neck and arms. It was determined the wounds were self-inflicted.

Northampton County Crisis was notified to assist with the man.
