Local Roundup: Results from May 7

Tamaqua posted wins in both baseball and softball action on Tuesday.

Palmerton’s baseball squad also earned a victory, while its softball team gained a split against Northern Lehigh.

BASEBALL

Tamaqua-Jim Thorpe

Tamaqua scored 10 unanswered runs to offset an early deficit and gain a 12-4 Schuylkill League victory over Jim Thorpe.

Mason Ligenza hit a two-run homer - his seventh of the season - in the fourth inning to tie the game for the Blue Raiders, now 13-6 overall and 8-3 in the league.

Tamaqua then plated five runs in the fifth to take control. Jake Yenser’s two-run single was the key hit in the frame.

Cooper Ansbach, the game’s winning pitcher, had two hits and scored a run while Max Najarro added a hit and three RBIs.

Ligenza scored three times, and Lucas Kamant chipped in with a hit, two runs and an RBI.

Ansbach struck out nine in his six innings of work.

For the Olympians, who fell to 5-13 and 1-10, Matt Domski finished with a double and two runs, while Tanner MoDavis contributed a hit and two RBIs.

Palmerton ended its season on a positive note, rolling to an 11-1 Colonial League victory over rival Northern Lehigh.

Jacob Grammes pitched a two-hitter in the five-inning contest, allowing two walks while striking out four. At the plate, he finished 3-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs.

The Blue Bombers, who ended the year 6-14 overall and 5-11 in the league, also received two hits, four runs and two RBIs from Jason Carrelli. Brayden Hosier and AJ Borger both chipped in with a hit and two runs.

Coy Daubert had a hit and an RBI for the Bulldogs (4-15; 4-11).

SOFTBALL

Northern Lehigh’s Addie Smith outdueled Palmerton’s Carly Gaffney to help the Bulldogs register a 3-2 Colonial League upset in the second game of doubleheader.

Smith allowed six hits and two walks while striking out two in the stellar complete game effort. The Nolehi hurler pitched shutout ball over the last six innings.

Haylie Fenstermaker had three hits, one a double, and scored two runs for the Bulldogs, while Kaitlyn Stock also collected three hits and knocked in a run.

The winners also received a hit and an RBI from Peyton Hoffman.

Megan Matsko finished with two hits, one a triple, a run and an RBI for the Blue Bombers. Hailey Barry chipped in with a couple hits and a run.

Gaffney suffered the loss despite striking out 10.

Palmerton pounded out 20 hits, including two home runs from Madison Green, to roll to a 17-3 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh in the completion of a suspended game from April 30.

Green finished with six RBIs for the Bombers, who scored seven runs in the opening inning.

Carly Gaffney went 4-for-4 with a double, three runs and three RBIs, while Cadee Mungone added three hits and three runs.

Others contributing to the lopsided wins included Grace Schneider (two hits, two runs, two RBIs), Hailey Barry (two hits, two runs), Megan Matsko (two hits, two runs), Mikayla Pengelly (two hits, two RBIs) and Emily Christopher (two RBIs).

The Bulldogs received a pair of hits from Kaitlyn Stock, while Skyelar Horack had a hit and two RBIs.

Jim Thorpe-Tamaqua

Addison Krall hit two home runs, and Megan Linkhorst pitched a three-hitter, to lead Tamaqua to a 10-1 Schuylkill League victory over Jim Thorpe.

Krall blasted a solo homer in the third inning, and added a two-run shot in the sixth. She finished with three hits and five RBIs.

Linkhorst, meanwhile, allowed an unearned run and two walks while striking out five.

Leah Crowley contributed two hits and three runs to the winning cause, with Veronics Scott chipping in with a pair of hits and two RBIs. Linkhorst also helped her own cause with two hits and knocked in a run.

For the Olympians, Mara Levins had a hit and scored a run.

Tamaqua improved to 3-16 overall and 2-11 in the league, while Thorpe dipped to 5-14 and 1-12.
