Lehighton offers secretary position

Lehighton Borough Council hopes the second time around will bring a borough secretary.

After about a 45-minute executive session, borough council on a 6-0 vote Monday agreed to offer the position to candidate No. 2 and hire upon acceptance and conditional approval.

Council declined not to release the name of the person.

Council’s decision comes after it voted at a special meeting last month to hire two people for clerk positions.

However, the initial candidate for whom the borough hired for borough secretary at a rate of $51,000 per year on a one-year contract declined to take the position.

The borough secretary is a full-time in-office employee position which provides reception duties and clerical support to borough staff and residents.

At last month’s special meeting, the borough also voted to hire the position of borough utility billing clerk at a rate of $22.73 per hour union contract.

The borough utility billing clerk is a full-time in-office position which provides reception duties and clerical support to residents.
