Carbon showcases responders

There is still time for municipal elected officials and governmental officials to sign up for the second elected official training at the Carbon County Emergency Operations Training Center.

The event aims to showcase what the area’s emergency responders do in an emergency.

It will take place on June 1 at the Carbon County Emergency Operations Training Center, 88 Public Safety Lane, Nesquehoning; and is open to all municipal elected officials, as well as other governmental officials.

The first municipal training, which was held last year, had over a dozen elected officials participate in various drills that first responders must be prepared for in the event an emergency occurs.

Officials should expect to participate in a live burn scenario, active shooter drills, pulling fire hose and more.

“It’s a very good educational day for elected officials,” Nothstein said. “No one (municipal) entity can handle the situations we’re running into.

“It’s extremely important that our elected officials know what our police, fire and EMS services are doing,” he added.

To attend, elected officials in all municipalities can email cceotc@ptd.net or waynenothstein@carboncounty.net by May 24. Space is limited. Clothing that should be worn include jeans, closed toed footwear, and weather-appropriate attire for that day’s weather conditions.
