Local roundup: Results from April 30

Morgan Kelly tossed a no-hitter as the Marian softball team claimed a victory on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, the Panther Valley baseball and softball teams each recorded wins.

SOFTBALL

Marian-Nativity

Kelly had a big day in the circle and at the plate as Marian cruised to a 13-0 Schuylkill League win over Nativity.

Kelly tossed a five-inning no-hitter for the Fillies (10-5 overall; 6-4 SL) with 11 strikeouts. She added a solo home run, a single, two runs scored and four RBIs.

Deanna Pugh had a three-hit day with three singles and a run scored, while Malina Letcher walked twice, was hit by a pitch, and scored three runs.

Panther Valley-Weatherly

Panther Valley halted a three-game losing streak with an 18-4 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly.

Janessa Prudente sparked the Panthers (7-9 overall; 5-5 SL) with two singles, a triple, three runs scored and four RBIs. She also struck out six, walked four and allowed four hits.

Morgan Orsulak (triple, two walks, three runs scored, two RBIs) and Mikayla Yuricheck (single, four runs scored, RBI) both had big games in the batter’s box.

Ava Sahaida led the Wreckers (4-9; 1-7) with a double, walk, run scored, and an RBI, while Juliette Bartel and Rachel Rosenlund both ended up with a single and an RBI.

PM West-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley blanked Pocono Mountain West for an 8-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win.

Hailey Krock led the Bears (12-4 overall, 10-4 EPC) with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. She finished with three singles, two runs scored and an RBI.

Madison Dorshimer went the distance in the circle for PV, tossing a three-hit shutout. She finished with five strikeouts without allowing a walk.

Danica Getz (single, double, run scored, two RBIs) and Sam Ratti (two singles, RBI) both had multiple hits, while Jovi Valenzuela drilled a two-run home run in the sixth inning.

Julia MacPhee and Isabella Pacheco posted extra-base hits with doubles for the Panthers (2-12, 1-12), while Rylie Evans added the other hit with a single.

Lehighton-Pine Grove

Pine Grove only needed five innings of play to initiate the 10-run rule and post a 10-0 Schuylkill League win over visiting Lehighton.

The Cardinals (13-3 overall; 9-2 SL) plated five runs in the first inning. Addison Zimmerman opened the scoring with a two-run single, Tailyn Rohr followed with an RBI-single and Meadow Umbenhauer connected for an inside-the-park home run scoring Rohr.

Callee Leffler, Hannah Aungst and Rohr all finished with two hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Aungst added an extra base hit and a double, while Leffler and Rohr both finished with a triple.

Chelcy Clark tossed a five-inning one-hit shutout in the circle, as she struck out six and walked two to earn the win.

Addison Chavanic accounted for the lone hit for the Indians (5-11; 3-8), as she connected for a line drive hit in the first inning.

Panther Vy.-Weatherly

Panther Valley rolled to a 15-0 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly.

Chase Weaver (four runs scored) and Brody Breiner (double, run scored) each had two hits and three RBIs for the Panthers (10-5). Drew Kokinda (two RBIs, run scored) and Logan Fisher (two runs scored) each doubled.

Niklaus Eroh had a pair of hits for the Wreckers (1-14). Trent Higgins also had a hit.

Marian-Nativity

Nick Wagner allowed one run, scattered six hits, and struck out six to lead Nativity to a 4-1 victory over Marian.

Nolan Ferhat went 3-for-4 for the Hilltoppers, who added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth and evened their record at 8-8

Brian Hinkle, who had a pair of hits, also went the distance and struck out six for Marian, which had its three-game winning streak snapped and slipped to 8-7.

Lehighton-Pine Grove

Pine Grove plated two runs through the first three innings and hung on to a 2-1 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.

Carson Lengle allowed five hits and struck out six over six innings and added a sacrifice fly for Pine Grove (8-6). Owen Hannevig, who picked up the save, added two hits and an RBI.

Michael Yeakel had two hits, Brady O’Donnell added an RBI, and Aiden Rarick stole two bases for Lehighton (11-6).
