National Volunteers Week was the occasion for the Palmerton Hospital Auxiliary to honor those who have done volunteer work at the hospital in the past year.

Auxiliary president Joyce White and hospital president Peter Kern presided at the event, during which time it was pointed out had the volunteer hours been translated to financial terms, the volunteers would represent a $100,000 gift to the hospital.

Among those honored were Ethel Swietzer, who received a 6,000-hour pin; Charles B. George, Ann Louise Mertz and Mary Jane Reimert, 5,000-hour pins; Mary Lorraine Haupt, 4,000-hour pin; and Rhoda Bishop and Mary Szukics, 3,000-hour pins.
