Tamaqua Borough sustainability results to be released

Residents are invited to hear the results of a Cultural Sustainability Assessment study that was recently completed in the Tamaqua area.

A presentation will be held at 6 p.m. May 8 at the Tamaqua Community Arts Center.

The study shows how a handful of passionate community members can revitalize and steward cultural sustainability when having the resources to do so.

Jenna Ashton Winton of Cultural Sustainability Consulting conducted the research and fieldwork for the report between October 2022 and March 2023. The research and documentation focused on the assets of cultural sustainability defined by residents of Tamaqua who served as a “Cultural Sustainability Advisory Council.”

Winton started her interview process from community advisors’ suggestions and previous folklorist reports, and eventually included residents recommended by others. Significant statements collected through interviews and the workshops were transcribed word for word to authentically represent the speaker and acknowledge the importance of community members’ agency over their own narratives.

The report and a video description of it can be found on the Tamaqua Community Partnership’s website at https://www.tacp.info/information_reports/
