Meal and Rosary

Our Lady Queen of Peace is holding a Mission Meal at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Community Sunday Supper will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

There will be another Rosary-making workshop at 12:30 p.m. this Friday in the cafe.

Effort pantry open

The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC will be open from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Chicken dinner

It’s a chicken barbecue dinner that Effort UMC is having Saturday from 3 to 6:30 p.m.

Opportunities to volunteer and/or help to offset costs can be found on the easel in the Narthex. Pre-order forms can be found on the Welcome Center.

Parishioners are asked to help provide baked goods/donations for the dinner as well as for the Austin’s Blue Line event taking place May 18, in Wesley Hall, from 4 to 7 p.m. It is a scholarship benefit as well as suicide prevention financial funding help.

To sign-up for that event, a spaghetti dinner, contact the church.

Community BBQ

The American Legion Post 927 is hosting a community barbecue on April 27. Visit the organization’s website or call 610-681-5838 for more information.

Donations sought

The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC is accepting donations of cereals, oatmeal, cream of wheat, etc.

The SFRC will be open to give items to folks in need on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.

Presbyterian message

Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church, Brodheadsville, will hear the pastor preach on: Showing God’s Love- based on Psalm 23, 1 John 3:16-24, on Sunday.

NCC event held

Community Night at Northampton Community College will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Turkey deadline

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Kresgeville, is having a turkey takeout dinner on May 4.

Dinner includes turkey, filling w/gravy, carrots, applesauce, roll and choice of molasses or apple cake.

Orders must be placed by calling in at 570-688-5381 no later than Sunday.

Pickup of dinners at the church is May 4 between 4 and 5:30 p.m.

The church is also taking orders for celery seed dressing. Quarts and pints are being sold.

Eldred meeting change

The Eldred Township meeting schedule for May has been changed. Interviews for a new supervisor will be held on May 2 and the appointment is scheduled for May 14.

Cemetery group

The Buena Vista Cemetery group will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, in the Zion Lutheran Church’s social hall, Brodheadsville.

Current officers are: George Strunk, president; Denise Barlieb, vice president; Tom Kresge, sec./treasurer.; and Florence Gower, publicity.

Anyone who has concerns is welcome.

PVEN yard sale

A one-day yard sale is being held at the PVEN’s upper lot from 8 a. m. to 2 p.m., Saturday.

The PVEN Snack Shack will return with foods and drinks for purchase.

All proceeds directly support PVEN’S Food pantry, Clothing Closet, Diaper Pantry and Menstrual Hygiene Pantry.

In case of rain, the event will take place on May 4, 2024.

Summer Reading

Western Pocono Community Library has announced its Summer Reading is coming. Online registration begins May 1.

The Western Pocono Community Library is also trying to get folks interested in beginning the Wreaths Across America event in some local cemeteries.

More information will be forthcoming as the library receives it.

Flea market held

The Pavilion at Effort UMC will be the place to find treasures as a flea market takes place there in from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., May 4.

Bog birding

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced its Birding the Bog Programs.

Folks are invited to join staff on May 8 or May 15 for a morning of birding in the Tannersville Bog.

Combine one of the most unique natural settings with one of the most spectacular natural phenomena and one can get a morning of migration birding at the bog.

There is a cost.

Pre-registration is required by calling 570-629-3061.

For more information, call the Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and some Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
