Fire damages Summit Hill home

A fire, believed to be electrical in nature, caused damage to Summit Hill residence, Wednesday morning.

The blaze happened at the home of John Shemansik, owner of S & O Computers, in the 100 block of East White Street. S & O Computers is located on the first floor of the three-story, brick building. The fire occurred in a room on the second floor.

Major damages occurred to room where the fire originated.

Shemansik was home at the time and saw smoke coming from the room. He and other family members escaped without injury.

Quick response by firefighters kept the flames contained to the room.

Responding were the Summit Hill, Lansford and Coaldale Fire Departments as well as Lehighton Ambulance, Summit Hill police and fire police.

Chief of Police Shawn Hoben said the fire is believed to be accidental in nature.

One individual at the scene was transported to a hospital when they began experiencing chest discomfort.

The fire happened at about 9:45 a.m. Firefighters remained at the scene for more than an hour.

Shemansik said S & O Computers had served businesses and residential customers but discontinued the residential service last month.

At the same time as the White Street fire call, firefighters were dispatched to an automatic fire alarm call in the 100 block of East Amidon Street, Summit Hill.

Coaldale and Jim Thorpe Fire Departments were dispatched but the incident was declared under control and no damage was reported.
