Tamaqua high school hosts spring concert

The Tamaqua Senior High School Vocal Music Department will present its annual “Spring Choral Program” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Tamaqua Area Auditorium. The concert will feature performances by the High School Concert Choir and the Jazz and Concert Chorale.

The concert choir will open the concert with “I Will Lift My Voice and Sing” by Victor Johnson, followed by “Go Down Moses (Let My People Go)” arranged by Roger Emerson. Students selected to participate in Schuylkill County Chorus will be featured on “The Dream Keeper” by Rollo Dilworth.

The Jazz & Concert Chorale will take the stage and sing a wide variety of musical styles and selections. It will begin with “The Road Not Taken,” a piece dedicated to the class of 2024. The women of the chorale will then sing “Love Story” as performed by Taylor Swift. The men will sing Billy Joel’s doo-wop classic “The Longest Time.” The jazz chorale will close its set with “Take a Chance On Me” by the pop supergroup ABBA.

The concert choir returns to sing “White Winter Hymnal” and a medley of songs from the Broadway musical “The Phantom of the Opera” arranged by Ed Lojeski. The concert comes to a close with a rousing Gospel selection entitled “I’m Gonna Rise” by Paul Marsena.

Accompanists for the choirs are Cecilia Ulicny and Debra Sweeney. The choirs are under the direction of John D. Buglio.

Doors to the auditorium will open at 6:45 p.m. There is an admission fee.
