Monroe OKs $1.2M in change orders

The Monroe County commissioners approved $1.2 million in budget adjustments during their meeting on Wednesday. Most of it was related to the courthouse renovation project.

“The courthouse expansion is a big one,” said John Christy, the chairman of the commissioners. “We had $1,065,494.”

Christy explained that the adjustment paid off the 2023 expenditures. The payment came out of the general fund.

The commissioners also ratified a change order for the Courthouse Renovation/Expansion Project to Lobar Construction for additional work totaling $11,108.53.

Other budget adjustments totaled the remaining $192,805 as of April 12. These included: $155,000 to Monroe County Children and Youth for services; $5,000 to the Area of Aging Office a program; $5,000 for the District Attorney’s Office for additional office furniture for new hires; $4,367 to Vector for a budget adjustment concerning police vehicle and $856 for auto insurance, and $30 for the county coroner for internet services.

In other business, the commissioners acknowledge receiving the Central Cost Allocation Plan for the Fiscal Year ending Dec. 31, 2022, as prepared by Maximus.

Christy explained that this is a time and motion study for anything that is grant related. It will help the county gain knowledge on where time can be charged in reference to grants.

The commissioners also approved the grants manager to electronically sign the Fiscal Year 22-23 Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program Local Solicitation contract. The grant award total is $200,000.

“This is a program that is for protection orders to keep guns out of the hands of those who might pose a threat, so if you have a Protection from Abuse (order), it allows the sheriff to collect the guns,” Christy said.

The commissioners also wanted to mention a couple miscellaneous items.

Children’s Roundtable Community Night 2024 is coming up soon from 6 to 8 p.m. on April 30 at Northampton Community College Monroe Campus. The commissioners said there will be many vendors on hand. They said to go to the Monroe County Facebook page for more information.

Also on the Facebook page is a survey for the community. The county wants suggestions for uses of the former Assessor’s Office and Old Jail on North Seventh Street. The structures were built more than 150 years ago. The survey will close on April 30.

And on May 17, the Monroe County Career Fair will be held at One Quaker Plaza. Christy said there are job openings for clerical, administration, court services, law enforcement, maintenance, social services and more.
