Carbon County Commissioners
The Carbon County Commissioners acted on or discussed the following items during their weekly meeting on Thursday. Commissioners’ Chairman Michael Sofranko was absent.
• Approved a quote from I-Con Systems Inc. of Atlanta, Georgia, to purchase flush regulators for the restricted housing unit and max units at the Carbon County Correctional Facility. The total cost is $12,559.28.
• Approved a quote from Smulligan Glass Inc. of Tamaqua to replace window glass in the female unit recreation yard at the correctional facility at a cost of $5,611.
• Approved the 2024-2025 Hazardous Materials Response Fund budget for a performance grant through June 30, 2025 in the amount of $7,002. Commissioner Wayne Nothstein said that the funds have been dwindling over the years, but counties must still provide the same trainings to first responders regarding hazmat responses.
• Approved an agreement for an employee to participate in the Child Welfare Education for Leadership Program graduate level opportunity through the University of Pittsburgh. There is no cost to the county.
• Approved a change order with Master Mechanical Corp. of McAdoo for a back-charge for the cost to return the regulators on the boiler to originally piped locations at the 525 Iron St., Lehighton building. There is a credit in the amount of $2,150.17.
• Approved two change orders with Urban Electrical Contractors of Dunmore providing credit allowance for work and a credit in the amount of $25,895.84.

• Hire: Amy M. Long of Jim Thorpe, secretary III, Children and Youth, effective May 6.
• Coroner appointment: Erika Reinheimer of Bowmanstown, deputy coroner, effective April 23.
• Prothonotary appointment: Amanda L. Rowe of Jim Thorpe, second deputy trainee; and Emily L. Krajnak of Summit Hill, PFAD coordinator/clerk trainee, both effective April 22.
• Sheriff appointment: Edyta Solon of Jim Thorpe, special deputy sheriff trainee, effective April 22.
