Franklin to post ‘no vaping’ signs at fields

Franklin Township plans to update an ordinance regarding signs at its ballfields to include no vaping.

On a unanimous vote, the board of supervisors on Tuesday agreed to have township solicitor Tom Nanovic do an addendum to a township ordinance.

The township currently has “Young Lungs At Play” signs placed at its ballfields that have become faded.

Township secretary Brenda Cressley said after the meeting that supervisors in 2010 adopted an ordinance to prohibit smoking in parks within the township.

Cressley said she received an email from Ben Moyer, president of the Franklin Township Little League, requesting the township to update the ordinance to include no vaping and ecigs, etc.

She added that the company from which the signs are designed need the township’s ordinance to include the no vaping and ecigs because their new signs reflect that.

Cressley said that once they receive the township’s updated ordinance, the Little League will be able to order new signs.

Contracts

Also on Tuesday, supervisors hired the Law Firm of Elliot, Greenleaf, and Dean as labor counsel to assist with the negotiation of the Teamsters Collective Bargaining Agreement for the road crew and the police department, along with any related matters.

Cressley said after the meeting both the road crew and the police department’s contracts are up at the end of this year.

She said that’s the reason why the board wanted to appoint the law firm to have them in line for when negotiations begin.
