Memorial Commission

The Polk Township Memorial Commission will meet at 6 p.m.

Drive-through meal

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, will be hosting its free drive-through dinner from 5 to 6 p.m. today.

The menu this month is a breakfast for dinner including pancakes, sausage, fruit cup, and a dessert.

WPLC meeting

The next meeting of the Western Pocono Lions Club at Cherry’s Restaurant in Kresgeville is at noon on Thursday. Visitors are welcome.

Eldred’s cleanup

The Eldred Township Spring roadside cleanup will be held from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Fellowship work

Effort UMC will host a Fellowship Work/Clean-up Day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Helpers will work on removing the debris along with restaining the benches in the Prayer Garden, some entrance doors repainting and refurbishing/relocating the church sign on Valley Road, among others.

Consignment sale

Pocono Old Tyme Farm Equipment’s Consignment Sale will be held on the West End Fairgrounds in Gilbert, Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m.

Consignment items will be accepted on Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Vets Appreciation

The American Legion, Post 927, Gilbert, will host a Veterans Appreciation Day at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Meals offered

Our Lady Queen of Peace will hold a men’s breakfast at 8:30 a.m., on Saturday. For details call or email the church at 610-681-6137 or secretary@qopchurch.org.

A barbecue to celebrate the church’s seniors will be held at 7 p.m. May 21.

The parish office is open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Planting Saturday

The Garden of Giving will hold its first day of planting at the Garden in McMichaels with 3,000 onion sets on Saturday. Planted along with the onions will be other spring crops.

Volunteers are needed, so youth groups, Scouts and students looking to fulfill their community service requirements are welcome.

Dinner Saturday

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, will host a roast beef dinner on Saturday.

In-house seating and take-out meals will be available. Call 570-992-7311 for information.

Take-out orders will be offered from 3 to 5:30 p.m. and in-house serving is from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Pre-orders are welcome, but not required. The church is located at 924 Route 115, Saylorsburg.

Guest preacher

Bishop Randy Sizemore will be the guest preacher at St. Matthew’s Church in Kunkletown. He will remain after the service to answer any questions.

Sermon series

Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church, 150 Pilgrim Way, Brodheadsville is continuing its April sermon series on Sunday. The focus will be: God’s Love, based on Psalm 23, and 1 John 4:7-21.

Public Bingo Night

On Monday, the American Legion Post 927 will hold its open to the public bingo night card sales begin at 6:30 p.m. Games begin at 7 p.m. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Knit & Crochet

Zion Lutheran Church’s Knit & Crochet will meet at 1 p.m. New hands for helping are welcome.

AL Sons meet

Sons of the American Legion, Post 927, will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Chicken dinner

The Effort United Methodist Church on Merwinsburg Road off Route 115 in Effort, will be having its semi-annual Chicken BBQ Seasoned Dinner on April 27, from 3 until 6:30 p.m., or while supplies last.

Supplies accepted

The Supplemental Food Resource Center at Effort UMC is accepting donations of cereals, oatmeal, cream of wheat, etc.

It will be open to give items to folks in need on April 27, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Meeting set

The Buena Vista Cemetery group will meet at 6 p.m., April 30, in the Zion Lutheran Church’s social hall, Brodheadsville.

Anyone who has concerns is welcome.

PVEN’s March helping

The monthly March statistics of the PVEN (Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network) have been released.

The Food Pantry portion served 302 families, including 913 individuals; the Clothing Closet served 52 families or 208 individuals; the Diaper Pantry served 106 families; and the Menstrual Hygiene Pantry served 106 individuals.

In order to help those who need help, the PVEN is holding its semi-annual yard sale on April 27 in the upper lot of the PVEN from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The PVEN Snack Shack will also return with foods and drinks for purchase.

All proceeds support PVEN’S Food pantry, Clothing Closet, Diaper Pantry and Menstrual Hygiene Pantry.

In case of rain, the event will take place on May 4.
