Track & Field Roundup: Results from April 16

The Palmerton boys and Northwestern girls track and field teams continued their stellar seasons with a pair of victories on Tuesday.

Bangor-Northwestern-Palmerton

The Palmerton boys and Northwestern girls remained undefeated with sweeps in Colonial League action.

The Bombers moved to 7-0 with wins over the Tigers (107-43) and Slaters (101-43). The Tiger girls are 6-0 after topping both Palmerton (96-53) and Bangor (121-29).

Matthew Machalik (100, 200), Connor Hibell (1600, 3200), Bryson Walters (110H, 300H) and Ryan Burkett (discus, javelin) all scored multiple wins for the Bombers. Machalik, Walters, Ty Sander and Stephen Jones also won the 400 relay with a time of 43.5.

Sean Kershner won the 800 and combined with Benjamin Bachman, Francesco Ponte and Greyson Wellings to win the 1600 relay for the Tigers.

Sadie Fenstermaker won the shot put and discus for the Northwestern girls, who also had Sophia Schaffer (400), Kherington Yezik (800), Sophia Cornell (1600), Devon Heinly (3200), Katie Brensinger (100H) and Grace Yost (pole vault) post wins. The Tigers also swept the 400 (Schaffer, Carsyn Van Norman, Bailey Murray, Kaia Grantham), 1600 (McKensey Miller, Yezik, Haley Dubois, Schaffer) and 3200 (Yezik, Cornell, Heinly, Dubois) relays.

Erin Gombert won the 100 and 200 for the Palmerton girls, who topped Bangor 104-37.

Palmerton will travel to unbeaten Southern Lehigh (7-0) next Tuesday. Northwestern is in action again Thursday at Pen Argyl. The Tigers face Notre Dame Green Pond (6-1) the following Tuesday and Southern Lehigh (7-0) the final week of the regular season on April 30.

So. Lehigh-No. Lehigh-Pen Argyl

The Northern Lehigh boys picked up a win over Pen Argyl in a Colonial League meet, which also included Southern Lehigh.

The Bulldogs topped the Green Knights 84-51, but fell to the Spartans 135-15. In the girls meet, Southern Lehigh topped Northern Lehigh 105-45, while Pen Argyl recorded a 78.5-67.5 win over the Bulldogs.

Katelynn Barthold won the 800 and reset her school record with a time of 2:21.09, topping the 2:21.20 she ran last week. Barthold, Emma Heil, Natalie Moffitt and Evelina Mayak also won the 1600 relay with a time of 4:22.69. Dekota Barthold won the discus with a throw of 91-6.

Bailey Smith won the javelin for the Northern Lehigh boys with a throw of 134-4.

Panther Valley-Minersville

The Panther Valley boys and girls posted victories over Weatherly in Schuylkill League action at Minersville.

The Wreckers posted an 83-49 win over Lincoln Leadership in the boys meet. Lincoln Leadership earned a 32-30 win over Weatherly in the girls meet.

Minersville topped Weatherly 137-11 in the boys meet and 133-9 in the girls contest.

The Panther Valley boys 400 relay earned a victory with a time of 49.95. The team consisted of Gavin Yuricheck, Thomas Buyce, Frank Shubeck and Eli Maynard.

Brenda Banks posted a victory in the shot put for the Panthers with a mark of 33-9, while Jessica Hackash won the high jump, clearing 4-6.

Kelly Reiner won the javelin for the Wreckers with a throw of 105-0.

Lehighton-Pottsville

Lehighton and Pottsville split their Schuylkill League track meet, with the Indian girls winning a 95-54 decision and the Crimson Tide boys claiming an 81-68 victory.

Brielle Frable captured the 800 and 1600 for the Lehighton girls, who had 10 different individuals place first.

In the boys meet, the Indians’ Elijah Pagotto set a new school record in the 3200. Pagotto’s mark of 10:29.68 broke the old mark of 10:30.0 set by Leroy Gaston in 1997.

Lehighton also received multiple wins from Owen Serfass (400, 800).

Northampton-Pleasant Valley

Northampton swept Pleasant Valley by identical scores of 114-36 in an Eastern Pennsylvania Conference meet on Monday.

The Konkrete Kid boys received two individual firsts from five different athletes - Brady Dolak, Deric Fritzges, Samuel Duerr, Tristen Pinnock and Andrew Szeplaki - to earn the victory.

For the Bears, Jarael Moore won both the 100 and 200.

In the girls meet, Anne Beenders captured three events (100, triple jump, high jump) to lead the winners.

PV’s Nemani Moon crossed first in the 200 and 400, while Kara Miller took the shot put and discus.
