Man struck by garbage truck in Nesquehoning

A man was flown to an area hospital after he was struck by a garbage truck.

According to scanner reports, the call came in just before 10:30 a.m. for a pedestrian struck on the 100 block of West Railroad Street in Nesquehoning.

Dispatchers said the caller reported that a man had been struck by a garbage truck. Nesquehoning has a sanitation contract with Tamaqua Transfer Station.

Reports on the scene are that the victim was a worker for the sanitation company.

Police responded to the scene and called for Lehighton ambulance, as well as a helicopter after determining the man had several injuries that required immediate treatment.

The victim was treated at the scene by Lehighton paramedics.

A landing zone was set up in the field along Park Avenue in the Hauto Valley Estates and the victim was flown by LifeFlight6.

Witnesses at the scene credited the driver of the truck for his quick actions which they say saved the worker’s life. Nesquehoning police are investigating the incident.
