Mahoning Township supervisors OKs pact with road crew

Mahoning Township supervisors last week approved a new four-year agreement with its road department.

The board on a 3-0 measure, with one abstention, voted in favor of the agreement between the township and the Local Union 773, from Jan. 1, 2024 through Dec. 31, 2027.

The contract is for the township’s road department, which has four employees.

After the meeting, township secretary Natalie Haggerty said it calls for a 5% salary increase in 2024, 4% increase in 2025, 3.5% increase in 2026, and 3% increase in 2027.

Haggerty said it also includes a clothing allowance to $400 a year, one additional holiday, and new hires receive sick pay (pro-rated).

Supervisor Ron Reeser abstained from the vote because he works for the road department.

Supervisor Myron “Zeke” Blahy was absent.

Easement

The township tabled a cross access easement agreement with the Carbon Plaza Shopping Center.

Township secretary Natalie Haggerty said that the cross access easement agreement pertains to the Shopping Center, located at 1241 Blakeslee Blvd. Drive E., and Carbon Plaza II at 1235 Blakeslee Blvd. Drive E.

Haggerty noted that the properties are adjoining, and added that the Shopping Center and Carbon Plaza II have each requested an access easement over the property of the other for pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

The parties have agreed to grant each other an access easement for vehicular and pedestrian traffic, and that the Shopping Center has agreed to grant Carbon Plaza II a temporary construction easement, Haggerty said.

Supervisors also tabled the matter at last month’s meeting.
