Local roundup: Results from April 15

Palmerton received no-hitters from both its baseball and softball pitchers on Monday.

Cam Pengelly and Carly Gaffney both tossed gems to lead the Blue Bombers to win.

Palmerton’s track team also earned a sweep against Northern Lehigh.

BASEBALL

Palmerton-Pen Argyl

Palmerton’s Cameron Pengelly pitched a no-hitter, leading the Blue Bombers to an 8-1 Colonial League victory over Pen Argyl.

Pengelly, who walked one and struck out 11 in his seven innings of work, also collected two hits, scored a run and knocked in one on offense.

A.J. Borger contributed three hits to the winning cause, while Jason Carrelli finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Palmerton, which snapped a five-game losing streak and improved to 3-7 overall and 2-5 in the league, also received a hit and two RBIs from both Jacob Grammes and Brady Reph.

The loss snapped a four-game win streak for the Green Knights and dropped them to 8-3 and 7-2.

Wilson-Northwestern

Josh Lichman hit a three-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Northwestern to a 5-3 Colonial League victory over Wilson.

The win was the Tigers’ seventh in a row and lifted their record to 8-3 overall and 7-1 in the league.

Justin Augustus collected two hits and knocked in a pair of runs for Northwestern, while Shaun O’Donnell went the distance on the mound to earn the victory.

For the Warriors, now 3-5, Gunner Scheetz and Zakary Kardos both hit solo homers.

Executive Ed.-Lehighton

Lehighton’s Cole Dietz tossed a four-hit shutout and had plenty of support in a 10-0 whitewash of Executive Education.

Jayse Lawrence went 3-for-3 with a triple and a run scored, while Aiden Rarick had two hits, scored a run and knocked in one.

The Indians, who stole six bases in the game, also received a hit and three RBIs from Carter Birnbaum.

Dietz walked one and struck out three. He aided his own cause with a hit and two RBIs.

Randiel Araujo finished with two hits for Executive (4-3).

The win lifted Lehighton to 7-3.

Nativity-Panther Valley

Stephen Hood pitched five shutout innings and Tyler Black slugged a homer to help Panther Valley gain a 9-4 Schuylkill League victory over Nativity.

Hood allowed just two hits and three walks while striking out nine.

Drew Kokinda collected two hits and two runs for the Panthers, who improved to 6-1 overall and 6-0 in the league. Brody Breiner added two RBIs, while Hayden Goida chipped in with a hit and two runs.

Nativity slipped to 4-5 and 2-3.

Marian-Schuylkill Haven

Hunter Correll tossed a five-inning no-hitter and drove in three runs to lead Schuylkill Haven to a 10-0 Schuylkill League victory over Marian.

Correll walked one and struck out three in his pitching gem.

Alan Evans had two hits and scored twice for the Hurricanes, who have won seven straight, while Talan Spittler added a pair of hits - one a double.

The winners, now 9-1 overall and 5-1 in the league, also received a two-run triple off the bat of Adrian Clauser.

With the loss, Marian slipped to 5-4 and 3-2.

Jim Thorpe-Pottsville

Pottsville’s Schane pitched six innings of no-hit ball to help the Crimson Tide gain a 10-5 Schuylkill League victory over Jim Thorpe.

Schane allowed two walks and two unearned runs while striking out three.

Keistock had two extra-base hits and knocked in two runs for Pottsville, now 4-6 overall and 2-2 in the league. Filiac added a hit, two runs and two RBIs, while Allen chipped in with a hit and two runs.

For the Olympians (1-7; 0-5), Matt Domski finished with a hit and two runs. Schwartz contributed a hit and an RBI.

SOFTBALL

Palmerton-Pen Argyl

Carly Gaffney twirled a five-inning no-hitter to lead Palmerton to a 14-0 Colonial League shutout of Pen Argyl.

Cadee Munjone had three hits, one a double, scored twice and knocked in three runs to pace the Blue Bombers offensively.

Megan Matsko added two extra-base hits - a double and a triple - and two RBIs, while Hailey Delgado contributed two hits and a pair of runs.

Palmerton, which also received two hits from Hannah Barry, improved to 7-1 overall and 5-1.

With the loss, Pen Argyl fell to 4-4 and 1-4.

Panther Valley-Nativity

Panther Valley hit three home runs during its 18-3 Schuylkill League victory over Nativity.

Mikayla Yuricheck, Morgan O’Brien and Kyla McQuillen all went deep for the Panthers, who finished with 21 hits.

Yuricheck collected three hits, including a double, scored twice and knocked in two runs. Janessa Prudente also finished with three hits, one a triple, and was the game’s winning pitcher.

O’Brien, McQuillen, Kaidence Krapf and Brenna McAndrew all had two hits for PV, now 2-2 overall and in the league. McAndrew scored four runs, while O’Brien added four stolen bases.

The winners also received a hit, three runs and two RBIs from Caroline Breslin.

Pleasant Vy.-Wilson

Pleasant Valley rallied from a nine-run deficit to beat Wilson, 15-10, in extra innings.

Trailing 10-1 after five innings of play, the Bears captured the non-league contest by exploding for 14 runs over their final three at-bats - including five runs in the top of the eigth inning.

Brianca Pridham had a huge game for the Bears with three hits and seven RBIs. Pridham’s big day included a sixth-inning grand slam and a two-run single in the eighth.

Also contributing offensively for Pleasant Valley were Sam Ratti (home run, two singles, RBI, run scored); Jovi Valenzuela (two hits, four RBIs); Danica Getz (two hits, RBI, run scored) and Kailynn Getz (single, three runs).

The victory imporoves the Bears’ record to 4-3 overall. Wilson is also now 4-3.

Pottsville-Jim Thorpe

Faith Toothaker fired a three-hitter and struck out seven to lead Pottsville to a 12-2 Schuylkill League victory over Jim Thorpe.

Toothaker also contributed at the plate with two hits and three RBIs. Leadoff batter Jess Simintus also had a big day offensively for the Tide (6-3, 4-1) with a hit, three runs scored, two RBIs and a pair of stolen bases.

For Jim Thorpe (3-6, 0-6), Oleska McAndrew had a single and an RBI, and Sarah Hartman singled and scored a run.

Tamaqua-Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain’s Marla Freiwald outdueled Tamaqua’s Paige Bumbulsky as the Eagles pulled out a 3-0 Schuylkill League victory.

Freiwald scattered four hits and struck out 12 in tossing a comeplete-game shutout.

Meanwhile, Bumbulsky was doing her best to keep the Blue Raiders in it as she struck out five and allowed seven hits.

Elle Walasavage did most of the damage offensively for the Blue Mountain (8-1, 5-1) as she had a double, two singles, two RBIs and scored a run. Freiwald helped her own cause with a single, a triple and an RBI.

For Tamaqua (1-7, 1-5), Bumbulsky, Kolbe Robb, Addison Krall and Megan Linkhorst all had singles.

Ally Becker’s single in the bottom of the 10th inning scored the winning run to help Schuylkill Haven edge Marian, 3-2, in Schuylkill League action.

Gracelyn Line scattered six hits and struck out 19 for the Hurricanes (7-2; 5-2), while Kaitlyn Russo had two hits for Haven.

Morgan Kelly recorded 14 strikeouts and went the distance in the circle for the Fillies.

Deanna Pugh had two hits, one a double, for Marian (5-3; 2-2).

Haille Brown pitched a four-hit shutout and struck out 12 to help Lourdes blank Lehighton, 3-0, in Schuylkill League play.

Brown also had two hits at the plate and drove in a run.

Brynn Barcavage and Cassidy Grimes both contributed a pair of hits for the Red Raiders (3-4).

For the Indians, now 3-7 overall and 2-4 in the league, Morgan Myers had two of her team’s four hits.

Kori Rodichok pitched a three-inning no-hitter and Madyson Schwalm had a big day at the plate as Tri-Valley rolled to a 19-0 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

Schwalm hit a grand slam and finished the contest with six RBIs.

The Bulldogs (5-2; 3-0) also received a pair of hits from Madison Snyder.

The loss dropped the Wreckers to 2-5 and 0-4.

Palmerton posted a Colonial League sweep of Northern Lehigh.

Matt Machalik won the 100 and 200, while Connor Hibell claimed the 800 and 1600 as the Blue Bomber boys gained a 122-27 victory.

The Palmerton girls recorded an 89-61 win as Cora Wentz scored victories in the 800 and 1600.

Nolehi received multiple wins from both Bailey Smith (triple jump, javelin), Evelina Mayak (100 hurdles, triple jump) and Katelynn Barthold (400, long jump).
