Friends of Animals host memorial fundraiser

Carbon County Friends of Animals will hold a fundraiser with Radical Wine Company, Lehighton in memory of Rose Marek.

The event will take place at the wine company at 511 Mahoning Drive East, Lehighton, from noon to 4 p.m. on April 14.

All proceeds will benefit the shelter, but it is also in memory of and a Celebration of Life event for Rose Marek, the sister of Kimmy Mulik, who has been involved with the shelter for over 20 years.

Rose became ill in October 2023 and passed away on Nov. 17. Rose not only provided care to her elderly mother, but assisted Kimmy behind the scenes with these events; and her love for animals, especially her dog Duke, was indescribable.

There will be a basket raffle and other raffles. Anyone who brings an item from the shelter’s wish list will be entered into a door prize raffle.

Food will be available for purchase and music will be supplied by DJ Star Tracks. WLSH, Lansford Radio Station will be present, as well as Rose’s husband, Mark, who works at the radio station on Saturdays.

Rose helped Kimmy with trapping, spay/neutering of felines, and she set up a home for a cat on her front porch. She enjoyed bird watching and would always let her neighbors know if there was anything occurring in the development. She was called Detective Rose.

Kimmy would like to thank everyone who helped put this event together, especially her daughter, Denice, and for the generous donations from friends and family.

Kimmy said, “My sister and her best friend, Linda Balliet, visited Radical Wine frequently, which is why we chose this location.”

Additionally, “My sister’s love for animals cannot be described, and I know in my heart she would be honored for us to celebrate her life and to support Friends of Animals at the same time.”

CCFOA is a nonprofit organization and all proceeds support the care of animals in need in the county.
