Two charged with possessing gun, marijuana

A man and woman from Ohio have been charged with possessing a firearm and marijuana following a traffic stop in Kidder Township.

According to the affidavits of probable cause filed by Trooper Christopher Gaetano of the Pennsylvania State Police - Fern Ridge barracks in the case against Kevin Cravener and Amber Smith:

At 2:09 p.m. Sunday, Gaetano was in the area of Interstate 80, mile marker 280 in Kidder Township and stopped a silver SUV traveling in the left lane, going 77 mph in a posted 65 mph zone.

Gaetano made contact with the driver of the 2020 Nissan Rogue. Amber Smith, 32, of Cleveland Heights was driving and the passenger was Cravener, 33, of Lodi.

A strong odor of marijuana was coming from within the vehicle.

Police found marijuana and a black and silver Smith and Wesson SD40 VE 40 caliber.

In the rear trunk in the spare tire area, were two vacuum sealed bags containing marijuana.

Cravner was determined to be a felon not to possess guns and Smith did not have a concealed carry permit.

Cravener faces charges on one count each of firearms not to be carried without license, intentional possession of controlled substance by person not registered, marijuana - small amount personal use, and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.

Smith faces charges of firearms not to be carried without license, intentional possession of controlled substance by person not registered, small amount of marijuana for personal use, use/possession of drug paraphernalia, exceeding 65 or 70 mph for all vehicles by 12 mph, driving in right lane, and driving without a license.

Both are currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility, Cravener in lieu of $75,000 monetary bail, and Smith in lieu of $25,000 monetary bail, and are scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Joseph Homanko.
