Police release checkpoint results

Officers from Troop M of the Pennsylvania State Police, Bethlehem, made five arrests for driving under the influence during a sobriety checkpoint they conducted between April 5-7 in Northampton County.

Police also issued 21 traffic citations and 24 warning notices during the three-day period. The checkpoint and roving patrols were conducted on Route 512 in the area of Short Lane in East Allen Township.

During a traffic safety checkpoint, troopers stop vehicles at selected locations to briefly observe drivers for articulable facts and/or behaviors normally associated with alcohol or drug impairment.

The goal of a sobriety checkpoint is to reduce the number of alcohol and drug related fatal and serious crashes, and to reduce the number of DUI drivers on Pennsylvania’s highways.
