Lansford contacts Summit Hill for shared services

Lansford Borough Council hopes neighboring Summit Hill will help with the borough with street sweeping.

Council Vice President Jay Doyle last month said the borough reached out to Summit Hill regarding street sweeping under a shared services agreement and was waiting to hear back.

Last month, Doyle reported that Summit Hill wanted an email requesting the help with street sweeping.

“To be honest, it didn’t sound like they were quite interested in helping,” he said.

Doyle, who took over the streets committee this year, said that he isn’t that familiar with the shared services agreement to see where the communities stand with helping each other.

“We swept their borough for years,” Council President Bruce Markovich said. “For years, we went up and swept that borough.”

Councilwoman Jennifer Staines said it seems like Lansford does a lot and gets a lot less in return.

Doyle said that he drafted an email, but said it sounded “a little mean,” and asked for help with a response.

Last month, Summit Hill officials discussed having a special meeting regarding shared services, but no meeting has been scheduled yet, Kira Steber, borough secretary/treasurer, said Wednesday.

The borough is continuing to look for a street sweeper to purchase, and borough workers were headed to Lancaster to look at prospects this week, Doyle said.

Last year, the borough looked for a used street sweeper, but did not find one for the $75,000 council approved. The borough put $100,000 in this year’s budget to purchase a used sweeper.
