Local Roundup: Results from April 5

The Tamaqua baseball team stayed unbeaten with a dominant victory Friday.

The Lehighton boys tennis team also earned a victory over Palmerton.

BASEBALL

Tamaqua-Notre Dame ES

Tamaqua exploded for an 18-0 non-league victory over Notre Dame of East Stroudsburg.

The top three hitters in the Blue Raider lineup went a combined 9-for-13 with eight runs scored and eight RBIs.

Mason Ligenza had three hits, two of them triples, three runs and four RBIs, while Wyatt Steigerwalt finished with three hits, three runs and three RBIs. Luke Kane also collected three hits, one a double, scored a pair of runs and knocked in one.

Tamaqua, which scored 10 times in the fifth inning, also received two doubles and four RBIs from Maximus Najarro. Winning pitcher Jake Yenser, who pitched four shutout innings and struck out six, also contributed two hits and knocked in two.

The win kept the Raiders undefeated at 5-0.

Pottsville-Lehighton

A big fourth inning helped Pottsville secure its first Schuylkill League win of the season with an 11-6 victory over Lehighton.

Luke Keitsock had a pair of doubles and three RBIs with two runs scored for the Tide (2-5, 1-2), who turned a two-run advantage into a 9-1 lead with six runs in the top of the fourth. Luke Schane added a double among his two hits and finished with two RBIs and a pair of runs scored, while Dominic Rynard doubled and finished with an RBI.

Michael Yeakel homered and had a double with three runs scored for the Tribe (4-2, 1-2), who scored four runs over the final three innings. Aiden Rarick had three hits and an RBI, and Noah Barndt knocked in two runs.

Salisbury-Palmerton

A stellar pitching performance and plenty of timely hitting helped Salisbury earn an 11-3 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.

Austin Spisszak struck out eight and allowed two hits without surrendering an earned run over seven innings of work for the Falcons (4-1, 3-1), who have won three straight in the Colonial League after dropping their opener. Jake Zellin was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Caleb Gonzalez (double, two RBIs) and Thomas Lovelidge (run scored) each had two hits, and Michael Stauffer and Dominic Gracia both had two RBIs and a run scored.

AJ Borger (RBI, run scored) and Brady Reph had hits for the Bombers (2-4, 1-3), who led 2-1 after the first inning.

SOFTBALL

Pottsville-Lehighton

Faith Toothaker had a big day at the plate and in the circle to help Pottsville post a 9-5 Schuylkill League win over Lehighton.

Toothaker was 4-for-4 with two RBIs with two triples for the Tide (4-1, 2-1), who pounded out 14 hits. In the circle, she struck out nine in five innings, allowing two hits and one earned run. Lily Heimbach had three hits, including a double and a triple, and knocked in two runs. Jes Siminitus and M. Thomas each had two hits.

Maggie Pagotto was 3-for-4 with a double, triple and run scored for the Indians (0-5, 0-2).

TENNIS

Lehighton-Palmerton

Lehighton posted a 3-2 victory over Palmerton.

The Cokrilja brothers both gained straight-set wins in singles action, while the team of Michael Bowman and Phillip Ebbert managed a three-set win to give the Indians the victory.

Lehighton improved to 4-2, while the Bombers slipped to 3-3.

Jonathan Frank, Liam Hayes and Oliver Krejbich helped the Slaters (4-1) sweep singles play.

With the loss, the Olympians fall to 0-5 on the season.

Emmaus cruised to an 11-1 non-league win over Northwestern.

With the win, the Hornets improved to 5-0.

Tyler Kaas scored for the Tigers (3-2) on an assist from Devon Hildebrand. Bailen Smargiassi made six saves.

TRACK & FIELD

Palmerton-Saucon Valley

In a Colonial League meet from Thursday, Palmerton swept Saucon Valley.

Connor Hibell won three events to help the Blue Bomber boys post a 65-30 victory, while Nataly Walters won a pair of events in the girls 61-53 victory over the Panthers.

Some of the events at the meet, which Palisades also participated in against Saucon, were not contested due to weather issues.

Hibell claimed the 800, 1600 and 3200, while Matt Machalik captured the 100, 200 and was part of the winning 400 relay team. The Palmerton boys also received firsts from Bryce Marino (400), Bryson Walters (110 hurdles) and Alex Konze (javelin).

Walters sprinted to win in the 100 and 200 for the Bomber girls, while Emma Snyder (high jump) and Jessica Heydt (shot put) also added individual wins.
