Tamaqua man charged after hitting mother with lighter

Seth Valentine, 43, of Tamaqua was committed to the Schuylkill County Prison after he threw a lighter at his mother’s face Tuesday morning, Tamaqua police said.

According to police, officers were sent to a home on Railroad Street and spoke to the woman. She said she and Valentine were arguing when he threw something at her face. Police said she had bruising and swelling.

The woman said Valentine left the home when she called police. As officers spoke to her, he returned and asked for a belt and medication. She said she wanted him arrested.

He was taken into custody for domestic violence and charged with simple assault and harassment. Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer set percentage bail at $5,000, which Valentine was unable to post.
