Tamaqua woman had warrant, hid in basement

Tamaqua police charged a borough woman with resisting arrest and harassment following a 5:54 p.m. incident on March 13 on Orwigsburg Street.

Police said Deanna Kite, 21, attempted to hide in a corner from officers and then spit on two residents.

According to police, officers were sent to the home after the caller said Kite refused to leave. Police learned that Kite was wanted on a warrant from the Schuylkill County Detective’s office for failure to appear. When they arrived, the caller said Kite was in the basement.

Officers said they called several times for Kite but she did not respond. They said they entered the basement, saw Kite and told her she had to come with them because of the warrant.

According to police, Kite tried to flee through a basement door but it was chained shut. She then hid by the front door.

Officers said she admitted that she knew she had a warrant and said she was not going to jail.

Police said Kite began to “passively” resist arrest and would not walk with them or walk up the steps. With assistance, police got her to the living room where she spit on a man. She also spit on another man who was outside, police said.

She was taken to the Schuylkill County Prison.
