State police charge teens after I-80 robbery, chase

Three juveniles are in custody after state police at the Hazleton barracks on Wednesday after a vehicle and foot chase that began on Interstate 80 and ended in Blakeslee.

They are charged with robbery, receiving stolen property, fleeing or attempting to elude police and numerous Motor Vehicle Code violations. Police said their names are not being released at this time.

Police said they were informed of a robbery at the Valero Gas Station on North Church Street in Hazle Township. After receiving information on the make, model and registration plate of the getaway vehicle used in the robbery, they located the vehicle traveling eastbound on the interstate. They said the vehicle was reported to be stolen out of New York City.

Police said the driver of the vehicle failed to obey commands to stop through the chase and the vehicle left the interstate at the Blakeslee Exit (No. 284), traveled off the roadway and struck the guard railing. Police said the impact with the railing caused the airbag system of the vehicle to deploy, while police executed a Precision Immobilization Intervention maneuver to stop the car.

The juveniles ran from the troopers but were eventually taken into custody.
