Tamaqua Seniors

The Tamaqua Senior Citizens met recently with 24 members present. The president opened the meeting with the invocation, “Just Because He Loves Us So.”

The group meets every Thursday at the Coaldale Complex at 1 p.m. Anyone 55 and older is invited to attend.

St. John Lutheran Church

St. John Lutheran Church, 200 E. Mauch Chunk St., Tamaqua, will hold a chili dog sale. Preorders are due by April 14, and pickup will be from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. April 21. To order call 570-778-7939. If no answe, leave name and number of hot dogs, choice of toppings (mustard, homemade chili sauce, onions) and what time you wish to pick up order.

St. John will also have a Flower Moon Sale. Ten-inch hanging baskets and 32 flowers to a flat are available. Orders will be taken through May 12 by calling 570-778-7939. Pickup at the church will be from 6-8 p.m. May 23 and from 10:45 a.m. to noon May 26.

The church partners with Two Kings Restaurant in Hometown for a fundraiser from 11 a.m. to closing on April 14. St. John’s will receive 20% of the profits if you mention the church when you order a meal.

Proceeds from all three fundraisers benefit kitchen renovations.

Luncheon

The Pottsville Christian Women’s Club will hold a “Showers of Blessings” luncheon at 11:30 a.m. April 16 at Grace Evangelical Free Church, 101 Graeff St., Cressona. The speaker will be Doris Ortman of Chambersburg, who will talk about “Riding Through Life with Laughter and Tears.” The special feature is Porcupine Pat McKinney, who will talk about “What Schuylkill County is Renowned For.”

Zion Lewistown

Pastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service on Easter Sunday at Zion Church in Lewistown Valley. Communion will be included in the service.

Sunday School is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.

Calvary Lewistown

Pastor Kim will share a message of the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus at the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service at Calvary Evangelical church at 824 Catawissa Road. The offertory and special music will be presented by Allie Wommer. There will be no evening service. Sunday school for all ages will be held at 9:15 a.m. The prayer and share will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Also Sunday, there will be a 6:45 a.m. sunrise service at the Lewistown Valley Tabernacle, 614 Valley Road, Tamaqua.

Basket raffle

The South Ward Fire Company, 325 Van Gelder St., Tamaqua, will have its annual basket raffle on April 27. Ticket drop is from noon to 5 p.m. and drawings begin at 5:30 p.m. Winners do not need to be present.

Tamaqua pool passes

Tamaqua borough’s H.D. Buehler Memorial Pool will be open for swimming at 11 a.m. May 25. Applications for season passes are available at the Tamaqua Municipal Building, Tamaqua Post Office, Tamaqua Public Library, Boyer’s Food Market, Fegley’s Mini-Mart and Our Family Mini-Mart. Application forms, including payment and proof of residency, must be returned to the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, PA, 18252. Checks and money orders must be made payable to “Borough of Tamaqua.”

Rush-Ryan-Delano Seniors

The Rush-Ryan-Delano Senior Citizens recently met with 36 members in attendance.

The group welcomed back Nancy Schugart and Mary Taylor. Larry Bower and Pat Tracey are celebrating March birthdays.

A waffle dinner will be held April 13 at Christ Church in Barnesville. A trip to Mohegan Sun Casino in Wilkes-Barre will be held April 16, and a trip to Sights and Sounds Theater in Lancaster will be held April 24.

The election of officers will be held in May.

The seniors meet on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 1 p.m. at Christ Church in Barnesville. Anyone 55 and older is invited.

St. Peter’s - West Penn

St. Peter’s Church, 184 St. Peter’s Rd., West Penn Township, will have an Easter dawn service at 6:30 a.m. Sunday followed by a 7:30 a.m. breakfast. The 9 a.m. worship service includes celebration of Holy Community.

Play practice is at 7:15 p.m. Monday; Prayer Group is at 6 p.m. Tuesday; a Scotland/Ireland trip presentation is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, and the Cherub Choir and Senior Choir rehearse at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. respectively on April 4.
