Letter to the Editor: Warehouses are sitting empty

In the Lehigh and Northampton County area there are many huge warehouses with most of them sitting empty from all indications. Not only do they displace vacant farmland, area zoned for housing, and some woodlands, they replace land that should be absorbing water and not causing runoff and sometimes flooding.

The one part of all of the warehouses is, why do they keep building more of them when many of them are not being used and more questionable to who is funding them and who is going to benefit from them?

I understand that some towns are enticed by the property tax they will generate versus undeveloped land, but is it worth it in the long run. Someone should look into who putting up all of the money to build them and remember that foreign interests are buying up large portions of our country every day.

Towns that are considering allowing another huge warehouse should have their state and/or federal representatives look into this matter before approving another warehouse.
