Local roundup: Results from March 26

Marian’s Morgan Kelly was flawless in a win over Weatherly Tuesday. The Colts also picked up a win in baseball action over the Wreckers.

Northwestern’s baseball and softball teams both topped Southern Lehigh, and Pleasant Valley earned victories in boys tennis and girls lacrosse action.

BASEBALL

Tamaqua-Pottsville

Tamaqua edged Pottsville for a 3-2 win in Schuylkill League action.

Mason Ligenza tossed five solid innings, striking out eight and allowing four hits. Wyatt Steigerwalt tossed two perfect innings in relief, striking out one. Luke Kane was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Blue Raiders.

Luke Keitsock had a hit and knocked in a run for the Tide.

Salisbury cruised to a 13-3 win over Northern Lehigh in Colonial League action in five innings.

Owen Fogel doubled among his two hits and had an RBI and run scored for the Falcons, who pushed across six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jacob Bucchin had two hits, three run scored and an RBI. Thomas Lovelidge doubled and had an RBI and run scored.

Nicklaus Buskirk and Jackson Van Norman (two runs) both doubled for the Bulldogs.

Jim Thorpe-Pine Grove

Pine Grove thumped Jim Thorpe, 7-1, in Schuylkill League play.

Lane Lehman had three hits, and Carson Lengle, Owen Hannevig, and Jacob Hatter each added two hits for the Cardinals (2-1). Lengle and Hannevig both knocked in two runs.

Cole Lazorick and Nikolas Schwartz each had two hits for Jim Thorpe (1-2).

North Schuylkill-Lehighton

Lehighton plated two runs late and held off a last-inning rally to remain undefeated with an 8-7 Schuylkill League victory over North Schuylkill.

The Indians (4-0) scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a seemingly commanding 8-3 lead. But North Schuylkill (0-1) erupted for four runs in the top of seventh before its rally fell short.

Adam Bashore, Carter Birnbaum, and Brady O’Donnell each had two hits, while John Light added two RBIs for the Indians.

Cole DeFrancisco tossed a gem and got plenty of run support as Marian rolled to a 14-0 win over Weatherly in the Schuylkill League opener.

DeFrancisco went the full five innings, recording 10 strikeouts, walking one and only allowing two hits to earn the shutout.

Dylan Zullo led the way for the Colts (2-2 overall; 1-0 SL) at the plate, as he recorded three singles and two runs scored. Brian Hinkle (two singles, two runs scored, two RBIs) and Lachlan Segedy (double, home run, two RBIs) also had multiple hits.

Jack James posted both hits for the Wreckers (0-3; 0-1), with a single and a double.

Josh Farber went 3-for-3 and scattered four hits over six-plus innings to help Northwestern blank Southern Lehigh, 6-0, in Colonial League action.

Farber struck out four over six and two third innings before Griffin Unrath closed it out. Joshua Lichman had two hits, and Watson Church knocked in two runs for the Tigers (2-3), who jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning.

Eli Calaba had two hits for Southern Lehigh (2-1).

Palmerton-Bangor

Bangor’s Greg Campbell fired a one-hitter and recorded 11 strikeouts to lead the Slaters to a 6-0 victory over Palmerton in Colonial League action.

Cameron Pengelly had a double, the lone hit for Palmerton (2-3).

With the win, Bangor stayed unbeaten with a 3-0 mark.

Marian-Weatherly

Marian’s Morgan Kelly twirled a five-inning perfect game in a 15-0 Schuylkill League win over Weatherly that kept the Fillies undefeated.

Kelly struck out 13 of the 15 batters she faced. Emily Upanavage and Anna Grabosky had two hits apiece for the Fillies (3-0, 1-0), who took advantage of six Weatherly errors.

Weatherly fell to 2-2 (0-1 league) overall.

Jim Thorpe-Pine Grove

Pine Grove made the most of a nine-run fourth inning to cruise to a 15-0 win over visiting Jim Thorpe in the Schuylkill League opener.

Starter Chelcy Clark didn’t give the Olympians a chance to get their bats going. Clark recorded nine strikeouts over four innings of work in the circle, walked one, and finished with a one-hit shutout. Addison Zimmerman sparked the Cardinals (3-0 overall; 1-0 SL) with two singles, three runs scored, three RBIs and a walk.

Callee Leffler (single, home run, two runs scored, two RBIs) and Clark (two singles, two RBIs, a walk) also had multiple hits in the win.

Melina Schwartz posted the lone hit for the Olympians (3-1; 0-1), connecting for a single in the top of the third inning. Hannah Zacharias also reached base via a walk.

North Schuylkill cruised to a 12-2 Schuylkill League win over Lehighton.

Emilee Slotcavage sparked the Spartans (2-2 overall; 1-0 SL) two singles, a double, three runs scored and an RBI. Ava Correll (two singles, a run scored, an RBI) and Brigid Flynn (single, triple, a run scored, two RBIs) also had multiple hits.

Maggie Pagotto was the lone Indian (0-4; 0-1) with multiple hits, as she finished with a single, double and a run scored. Addison Chavavnic added a triple, run scored and an RBI.

Kaitlyn Stock went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, three runs scored, and a triple to lead Northern Lehigh to a 15-5 five-inning rout of Salisbury in a Colonial League contest.

Kylee Snyder also went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored, and Tegan Snyder was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored for the Bulldogs (2-2).

Riley Knecht was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Salisbury (1-2).

Northwestern utilized a four-run opening inning to score a 6-2 Colonial League win over Southern Lehigh.

With two outs in the bottom of the first, Lizzie Diehl laced a two-run single to score Abby Dunstan and starting pitcher Emma Freeman. Shelby Mittman followed and drilled a two-run double to score Anna Seyler and Diehl to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead.

Freeman added three singles and an RBI, while Dunstan (run scored) also had three hits.

Rylee McGinley had the big hit for NW, as she drilled a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Northwestern remains unbeaten on the season at 5-0 overall, while Southern Lehigh falls to 1-3 overall (1-1 CL).

A six-run fourth inning helped Pottsville take control in an 11-1 Schuylkill League win over visiting Tamaqua.

Starter Faith Toothaker tossed a three-hitter, which included 11 strikeouts, two walks and only allowed a single earned run to earn the win in the circle for the Tide.

Ava Bowers paced Pottsville (2-0 overall; 1-0 SL) with two singles, a double and two runs scored, while Madison Thomas posted two singles, a double, a run scored and two RBIs.

Kolbe Robb was the lone Blue Raider (0-3 overall; 0-1 SL) to record multiple hits, as she connected for two singles and an RBI. Megan Linkhorst added the other hit with a single.

Palmerton-Wilson

Palmerton swept past Wilson for a 5-0 win in Colonial League action.

Colby Chadwick, Levi Johnson and Jared Reinhard swept singles play for the Bombers. Reinhard won his No. 3 singles match in a tiebreaker after dropping the first set. The team of Anderson Garcia-Escobar and Katie Heimbach won the only contested doubles match for the Bombers.

Palmerton improves to 3-2 on the season, while Wilson falls to 0-4 overall.

Pleasant Valley made it three in a row thanks to a 6-1 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over visiting Pocono Mountain East.

The Bears pushed their record to 5-3 overall on the season, as Noah Dolan and Ben Keppel both notched singles’ play victories over their Cardinal opponents.

The pairs of Liam Angell and Aaron Bien, Roman Steuer and Chris Lanier, Aaron Rehrig and Jens Hansen and Logan Krock and Damon McMurtry swept doubles action.

Devon Bush scored six goals and Pleasant Valley rolled to a 17-3 non-league win over visiting Northwestern.

Rylee Rath had a big game for the Bears (3-0 overall) with five goals and two assists, while Olivia Iandoli had a goal and six assists.

Samantha Miller (two goals), Emily Butler (goal, assist), Morgan Ryals (goal), Ashley Palmieri (goal) and Alivia Rath (assist) helped Pleasant Valley stay unbeaten.

Sydney Wright, Olivia Spatz and Emma Yanders all scored for the Tigers (1-1), while Olivia Costa added an assist.
