Progress cannot be stopped in Carbon County

Warehouses and trucking terminals, the newest boogeyman.

I could talk about how every year more people use their cellphones and computers to shop for everything from groceries to cars, from furniture to clothing and all of those things are delivered by trucks. But what I feel the real issue is the NIMBY attitude of the self-righteous and the scared. The people bending over backward to virtue signal. Talking the talk but not walking the walk. Remember when those people were putting No Cell Tower signs in their front yard? Now parents are giving children as young as 8 a cellphone and people get upset when they drive through a dead zone on the way home from work. Remember the No Fracking signs? Then the price of electricity doubled, then tripled and people wanted to use gas to heat their homes. Remember No Walmarts? Now more people drive past the small local grocery store to shop at Walmart. Remember No To Nuclear Power. Now scientists agree that nuclear is the safest and best long term energy solution for the planet but after spending decades convincing people nuclear power was dangerous how will they change public opinion? No Solar Farms, No Hydrogen Generation Plants, No Windmills, No Progress.

Keep the Poconos wild? Over two-thirds of Carbon County is state park and state game lands, I regularly go to Hickory Run State Park, the only thing I don’t see is wildlife. Meanwhile in my backyard I see deer, bears, skunks, raccoons, rabbits and foxes almost daily. Why? Because there is no hunting in my neighborhood. If people really loved Kidder Township there would be nature preserves and not more hunting grounds. Warehouses don’t threaten wildlife, hunters do. So to the people who don’t want things to change, stop shopping at major department stores, stop buying things online, stop shopping at ShopRite, stop using electricity and cellphones. The Amish do it and their communities don’t have a need for warehouses or trucking terminals. The rest of us know that progress and the future cannot be stopped.
