Panther Valley hires two

The Panther Valley School Board took action on a variety of agenda item at its meeting Wednesday night, including hiring a teacher and a paraprofessional.

The board hired Tara Eisley as a third-grade teacher/special education at the rate of $43,436 per the union contract.

The board also hired Joshua Horvath as a junior/senior high school paraprofessional at a rate of $14.44 an hour.

In other business, the board approved:

• Robert Palazzo, elementary school principal, to go to two conferences, Mandatory Pre-K Counts Annual Conference and United National Conference School Leadership in April and July, respectively. The cost is $1,446.62.

• Alice Andrews, elementary teacher, and Joseph Damiano, junior/senior high school teacher, to take three credit courses at $516 a credit.

• A three-year extension for custodial and grounds services with Facilities Management Systems.

• Casey Hedash as Panther Valley security for the 2023-24 school year at $30 an event.

• Sponsorship of a $1,000 advertisement in the 2024 Carbon County Sports Hall of Fame Program.

• An addendum to the Statewide Tax Recovery contract. Statewide and Berkheimer have merged.

• Writs of execution on properties in Lansford and Coaldale.

• Homebound instruction for a sixth-grade student, effective March 6.

• An affiliation agreement with East Stroudsburg University Office of Field Experience and Partnership for five years from 2024-2029.

• Celia Shiner and April Kuehn as volunteers for 2023-24; teachers and paraprofessionals for the Extended School Year Program and uncompensated leave for an employee No. 1034.

• Policies on school organization, first reading; and the second reading of policies on educational opportunity for military children, graduation, eligibility of nonresident students, enrollment of students, transportation and public comment in board meetings.

• An intergovernmental agreement for special education services with the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 for the 2024-25 school year.
