The go-ahead was given last night by the Lehighton Zoning Hearing Board for the construction of the first subsidized family apartment complex in Carbon County.

The six-building complex will be built in the vicinity of Gypsy Hill Road and Mahoning Street, across the street from the Meadowcrest Park.

The complex will consist of a dozen one-bedroom, 36 two-bedroom and 16 three-bedroom apartments, as well as four two-bedroom apartments for the handicapped.

Twenty percent of the residents of the apartments must be “very low income families,” according to testimony offered to the board.
