Lehighton High School

Welcome back!

To start, the 63rd Annual Carbon County Band Concert was held on Thursday, March 14. Palmerton High School, Lehighton High School, Pleasant Valley High School, Jim Thorpe High School, Weatherly High School, and Panther Valley High School all participated in the concert.

Students from these bands spent three days learning music and interacting with each other. The county band concert allows students from all types of backgrounds to come together and produce music. Students are able to interact with each other and play music with students they do not usually play with.

National Honor Society hosted their spirit week and annual fundraiser. This year, National Honor Society chose to donate to the Hearing Loss Association of America. Penny wars were held during lunch, in which coins would provide positive points toward a student’s homeroom and dollar bills would provide negative points.

Additionally, congratulations to the Lehighton Academic Bowl Team.

The Carbon County Academic Bowl was held on March 14, and involved high school teams from around the county. The Lehighton team placed second in the bowl! Amazing work.

Wrapping up, the school wide reward day was recently held at the high school. A street hockey tournament was held, where student teams played against each other. The winning student team had the opportunity to play against the “all-star” teacher team in the final. School wide reward days promote positive behavior and engage students in interaction.

Hello everyone, checking back in with the latest edition of what’s happening in PV.

Our Scholastic Scrimmage team recently placed first in their meet at Palmerton against the other Carbon County schools.

Next week, the boys varsity baseball team plays March 26 at Shenandoah and March 28 at home vs. Weatherly. The varsity girls softball team plays March 26 at Shenandoah and March 28 at home vs. Weatherly. The varsity track and field team has a home meet on March 26 against Weatherly.

The PVHS student council is hosting a Corn hole tournament on the half-day before Easter break, they hope that this event will be fun and relaxing for everyone involved.

The third marking period ended on March 22, so report cards will be coming out sometime within the week. Prom tickets will be going on sale during the first week of April.

There are lots of fun events in store for the rest of the school year, so the students should keep themselves eligible to participate. As always, good luck to all of our athletes and teams who are competing. See you next week for a new edition of what’s happening in PV, and thank you for your continued support.

To start off the weekly ongoings at Jim Thorpe, the long-awaited Spring Break begins with the first off day being Wednesday, March 27. The prior Monday and Tuesday are in-session school days. Students return on Tuesday, April 2. This also marks the end of the third quarter.

For FBLA members, Clothes for Pros, run by Jim Thorpe Area High School Chapter Historian and Region 21 President Jon Duffy, is set up in the LGI to accept and offer donations of business attire appropriate clothing to qualifiers of the State Leadership Conference.

The upcoming break is the chance for any SLC qualifiers to cram in studying or buy the things they need. Once break ends, April 7 will come in the blink of an eye. Departure will be that Sunday at 8:15 a.m., and students are expected to arrive no later than 8 a.m.

While there will be no history club meeting, due to no school on Wednesday, the permission slips to attend the Antietam / Harpers Ferry trip are still floating about. Those are wanted to be turned in as soon as possible and require a $25 commitment deposit.

Prom is also fast approaching on May 10. Juniors and seniors who wish to attend should buy a ticket from a class adviser, as well as get a guest form if they wish to bring guests who do not physically attend Jim Thorpe.

During the PODS of Tuesday morning, the student advisory council will be meeting in the commons to discuss cafeteria foods and options. Interested students are welcome to attend.

Once again, the theater crew continues to diligently work on their upcoming performance of “The Addams Family,” which will be shown Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4.

Friday, April 5 is the day on which the Scholastic Scrimmage team will compete in the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit meet. Any student who is interested in attending or possibly participating in this meet or any future ones is welcome to attend the weekly PODS practices on Thursdays, in Mrs. MacCorkle’s classroom.

On Saturday, April 6, the JT Class of 2025 will be hosting a breakfast buffet and basket raffle. They have amassed various baskets with different goods, waiting to be sold to those who intend to eat a delicious meal and support Jim Thorpe.
