Local roundup: Results from March 20

The Northwestern baseball and boys lacrosse teams each picked up wins on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, Palmerton and Weatherly recorded victories in softball action.

BASEBALL

No. Lehigh-Northwestern

After dropping its first two games of the season, Northwestern opened Colonial League play with a 14-8 victory over visiting Northern Lehigh.

Justin Augustus paced the Tigers (1-2 overall; 1-0 CL) with two singles, a double, a run scored and an RBI. Bobby Croneberger (single, double, two runs scored, three RBIs), Josh Lichman (single, double, three runs scored, two RBIs) and Nolan Fitzgerald (two singles, three RBIs) also had multiple hits for the winners.

Brayden Buskirk led the Bulldogs (0-2; 0-1) two singles, two RBIs and scored a walk. Christopher Vargas added two singles, two runs scored and a walk. Nick Buskirk had a double, two walks and two RBIs.

Palmerton-NDGP

Notre Dame Green Pond opened the Colonial League season with a commanding 14-3 win over visiting Palmerton.

Starting pitcher Jameson Stell allowed six hits, three runs, struck out seven and walked three to earn the pitching win for the Crusaders (1-0 overall; 1-0 CL). Leadoff hitter Christian Rivituso finished with multiple hits, recording a single, double, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Cam Pengelly paced the Bombers (1-2, 0-1) with a single, a run scored and an RBI, while Jason Carelli and Brady Reph both added a single and a run scored. Trevor Stroup had a single, a walk and an RBI.

SOFTBALL

Palmerton-NDGP

Palmerton shook off the cold weather and broke out the bats in a high-scoring 12-8 victory over Notre Dame of Green Pond.

In their Colonial League opener, the Bombers (2-0 overall; 1-0 CL) collected an impressive 18 hits, including two solo home runs by Cadee Munjone and Emily Christopher.

Munjone and Hailey Barry each finished with three hits. Munjone ended with two singles, a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Barry had two singles, a double, a run scored and four RBIs.

Christopher (single, home run, a run scored, two RBIs), Sydney Frantz (single, double, two runs scored) and Mikayla Pengelly (two doubles, two RBIs) all finished with multiple hits in the win.

Natalie Lilly opened the scoring for the Crusaders (0-1; 0-1) with a two-run home run in the opening inning.

Weatherly-Executive

Ava Sahadia had seven RBIs to lead Weatherly to a 26-10 rout at Executive Education in non-league action.

Sahadia also had two hits for Wreckers (2-1), who won their second straight and scored 14 runs in the first inning. Abigail Teodoresco added three RBIs, and Abigail Weston and Rachel Rosenlund each had two hits. Weatherly’s batters worked out 19 walks.

Abgail Binder twirled a two-hitter and struck out 10 for the Wreckers.

BOYS LACROSSE

Michael Lagowy scored five goals and Blaine Snyder tallied four to lead Northwestern to a 21-2 rout of Bethlehem Catholic in the opener for both teams.

Devon Hildebrand added three goals, and Tyler Kaas, Stone Sosnovik, and Lucas Heeps each had a pair for the Tigers (1-0).
