Meal pickup

Zion United Lutheran will hold a free community dinner for all, by way of a drive-through pickup from 5 to 6 p.m. today.

Meeting postponed

Due to some scheduling conflicts, the board of supervisors in Eldred Township meeting scheduled for tonight is postponed until March 27.

Seeking singers

Effort UMC is seeking extra voices to help sing on Easter Sunday, singing at both 8:30 and 11 a.m. services. They will be doing “Crown Him with Many Crowns.”

Practices will be right after the 11 a.m. services this Sunday and the following Sunday.

Eldred Thrift Store

Among the several entities that are a part of the Eldred Township Community Center are: the Thrift Store, the West End Food Pantry and various Community Center events, including the quilters and more.

Spinning bee set

Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm will hold a spinning bee on Monday. For details call the farm at 570-992-6161.

Homeward bound

Father Edison Gregorio Arreaga Arce will be returning to his Passionist Congregation in his homeland of Ecuador, effective immediately, after his service for and at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church.

According to the release from Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, the Diocese of Scranton is committed to finding a native Spanish-speaking priest to serve the Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish community and has begun an immediate search in this regard.

There will be no farewell gatherings as per Father Gregorio’s request.

Quilters meet

The Western Pocono Women’s Club will continue its good works at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at a private home in Effort.

League meeting

The West End Little League will meet tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville. It is open to all.

Fish dinner

The Knights of Columbus are hosting a Lenten Fish Dinner at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church at 5 p.m., Friday. Served will be Fish & Chips or Baked Fish Dinner for a cost. There will be free pizza for children under 10.

Holy Week events

Zion Lutheran, Brodheadsville, will hold its services Palm Sunday services on Saturday, March 23, at 5 p.m., a simple spoken service; Sunday, March 24, at 8 and 10:30 a.m., The Passion and Procession of Psalms. Services are also broadcast via Zoom or Facebook Live. Sunday school is held on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month at 9:15 a.m.

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, will celebrate Palm Sunday at 9 a.m. March 24, recalling the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, welcoming him as the crowds did as the fulfillment of the Old Testament Scripture. Coffee Fellowship will follow the worship.

Pleasant Valley Presbyterian, Brodheadsville, will focus its 10 a.m. worship service on Palm Sunday.

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will celebrate Palm Sunday with a 5 p.m. service on March 23, and three services on March 24 at 8 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. in Spanish. There will also be services at 12:10 p.m., Monday; 8 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at 8 a.m.

Holy Thursday service is at 7 p.m. with The Lord’s Supper and Adoration follows until 11 p.m. which includes a Night Prayer.

On Holy Saturday there will be a 9 a.m. Tenebrae service and on March 30 at 8 p.m. an Easter Vigil.

Salem-St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will have Palm Sunday services at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. with Holy Communion at both services.

Sweet sale ends

Laymen’s Fellowship at St. Matthew’s UCC, Kunkletown, is hosting a Krispy Kreme fundraiser through Sunday. It includes original doughnuts as well as chocolate iced glazed, raspberry filled glazed, glazed kreme-filled and glazed lemon filler.

Pickup is from noon to 4 p.m. April 2.

A Miller-Keystone Blood Drive is scheduled to be held at the Western

Library Week feted

National Library Week is April 7 to 13, and the Western Pocono

Community Library is asking for help to celebrate that all week long.

Among the special events planned is WPCL’s spring Paint Party fundraiser at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 13.

Tickets are available at the WPCL Circulation Desk while supplies last. Snacks and nonalcoholic beverages welcome. No tickets will be sold at the door.

More activities will be part of the monthlong celebration.

Touch of Home

The next meeting of Operation: Touch of Home is set for 7 p.m. April 9.

Ross Historical

The Ross Township Historical Society invites all to its museum located next to the Township building at 258 Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 13.

New exhibits await with an interesting, fun and educational activity planned.

“Name the Artifact” will invite visitors to correctly identify 12 different display items with the visitor with the most correct answers winning a $25 gift card.

The lucky winner will be notified by either email or phone. There is never a fee for admission and the entire family is welcome.

As always, the group is accepting donations, both monetary and artifacts that are directly related to life as it was 60-plus years ago, and in keeping with the following areas: Farm and Family, Agriculture, Government, Business and Industry, Faith, and Education.

Sportsmen’s Day

On April 14, the Kunkletown Rod & Gun Club is hosting a Spring Sportsmen’s Day at 122 Gun Club Lane, Saylorsburg. Doors open at 11 a.m. The public is welcome.

Tickets will have 33 prizes, plus 2 door prizes and include refreshments from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Raffles are ongoing throughout the day.

First planting set

The Garden of Giving will hold its first day of planting at the Garden in McMichaels with 3,000 onion sets on April 20. Planted along with the onions will be other Spring crops such as Swiss chard and parsley. This large job will require lots of volunteers, so youth groups, scouts and students looking to fulfill their community service requirements will be very welcome.

A larger planting is scheduled for May 18-19.

Volunteers from The Top of the World Ministries worked to clean up the extensive damage from Winter, and from the havoc wrought by the recent heavy windstorm.
