Track & Field Roundup: Results from March 19

The Palmerton and Northwestern boys and girls track and field teams secured season-opening sweeps on Tuesday.

TRACK AND FIELD

Wilson-Northwestern

Northwestern swept Wilson in Colonial League competition.

The Tigers posted a 119.5-26.5 win in the girls meet, and secured a 93-57 victory in the boys competition.

Shane Leh claimed wins in the 110 and 300-meter hurdles for Northwestern (1-0), while Matthew Cabansag claimed the discus and shot put events. Northwestern also won all three relays, with Leh helping the 1600 relay team of Greyson Wellings, Sean Kershner and Francesco Ponte to a win.

For the girls, Carsyn Van Norman took home the victories in the 100 and 200-meter dash for the Lady Tigers, while Abby Pomajevich won the triple jump and long jump, and Sadie Fenstermaker won the shot put and discus. The Northwestern girls won all but three events in the meet.

Palmerton-Palisades

Palmerton opened Colonial League action with a sweep of Palisades on the road.

The Bombers ran away with a 104-46 win over the host Pirates on the boys side, while the Lady Bombers earned a 96.5-53.5 win in the girls meet.

Connor Hibell and Nataly Walters each earned three first-place finishes for Palmerton. Hibell earned firsts in the 800, 1600 and 3200 runs for the boys (1-0), while Walters grabbed top honors in the 100, long and triple jump events for the Bomber girls (1-0).

Ruby Walters (100H, 300H), Jessica Heydt (shot put, discus), Matthew Machalik (100, 200) and Bryson Walters (110H, 300H) all came back home with multiple first-place finishes.

Saucon Vy.-Northern Lehigh

Northern Lehigh split with Saucon Valley in a Colonial League meet.

The host Bulldogs earned a 71-70 win over the Panthers on the girls’ side, while Saucon Valley posted a 94-45 victory in the boys meet.

Evelina Mayak led the Bulldogs (1-0) with first-place finishes in the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and the triple jump. Katelynn Barthold (800, long jump) and Daisy Richards (shot put, discus) both posted multiple victories.

Mikayla Gordon (400), Emma Heil (1600), Dekota Barthold (javelin) all had first-place finishes for the Nolehi girls.

Seth Schaeffer (400), Zaid Salih (1600), Sam Frame (discus), Bailey Smith (javelin) and Dregan Millroy (pole vault) all collected single first-place finishes for the boys (0-1).

Lehighton-Blue Mountain

Blue Mountain swept Lehighton in a Schuylkill League meet.

Owen Serfass (400, 800), Bodie Hawk (shot put, discus) and Joseph Roth (high jump, high jump) claimed multiple wins for the Indians (0-1), who fell 85-65 in the boys meet, while Equan Warner took home the victory in the 110 hurdles.

The Lehighton girls (0-1), who suffered an 87-63 setback, won the 400-meter dash with Cayley Reph and the 100 hurdles with Ava Kistner. Alexandra Feller took the victory in the long jump, and Lorah Thomas won the discus.
